The vital link to Île d'Yeu

Yeu Continent, the public operator run by the Vendée department, is the year-round maritime service between the mainland and Île d'Yeu. Departing from Fromentine, at the tip of the Noirmoutier peninsula, it carries hundreds of thousands of passengers each year to Port-Joinville, the main port of Île d'Yeu.

Fast catamarans for passengers

Passengers travel on two fast catamarans, the Pont d'Yeu and the Châtelet, with a crossing time of about 30 minutes. The 2026 visitor return fare is €40 to €48 for adults depending on the season and €22 to €26.40 for children aged 4 to 12. Bicycles are carried from €29.80 return (cheaper when booked more than a month ahead).

A year-round service — vehicles on the cargo ship

Yeu Continent runs a daily service throughout the year, including in winter, from 2-3 rotations in low season to 6 or more in summer. Cars are not carried on the catamarans: vehicle and freight transport is handled by the dedicated cargo ship Insula Oya III (about 70 minutes, from around €290 return for a small car), with limited space that must be booked well in advance.

Booking and getting to Fromentine

The Fromentine boarding point is accessible by car from Nantes (1.5 hours) and has a large car park (pay-and-display in summer). Tickets are available online, by phone and at the ticket office. Booking is compulsory for vehicles and strongly recommended for passengers in high season. A bus service also connects Nantes railway station to Fromentine in summer.
