Service Maritime de l'île d'Aix is the main operator serving Île d'Aix, departing from the Pointe de la Fumée at Fouras in Charente-Maritime. The 20-minute crossing offers an exceptional panorama over the Pertuis d'Antioche, with Fort Boyard as a permanent backdrop and the shores of Île d'Oléron on the horizon.

A regular year-round service

The company runs daily crossings throughout the year, with increased frequency in summer (up to one departure every 30 minutes). The vessels can carry bicycles, which is ideal as Île d'Aix is closed to cars. Timetables are adjusted to the tides, particularly in winter when the draught may be reduced.

Fort Boyard and inter-island cruises

In addition to serving Île d'Aix, the company offers cruises around Fort Boyard, allowing passengers to get as close as possible to this iconic maritime fortress. Inter-island connections to Île d'Oléron are also available in season, offering the possibility of combining a visit to Île d'Aix with Oléron in a single day.

Booking and access

Tickets are available online, by phone and at the Pointe de la Fumée ticket office in Fouras. Booking is advisable in July-August. The Pointe de la Fumée car park is pay-and-display and often full in high season — arriving early or using the shuttle service from Fouras town centre is recommended. Do not forget your bicycle or plan to hire one upon arrival on the island.
